A start-up in the United Arab Emirates has launched a line of ice creams made with whey protein.
The Dubai-based company, called Whey2go, said the ice cream is produced “using 100 per cent natural ingredients” and contains high amounts of protein. Sugar has been replaced with a natural sweetener called xylitol.
It is currently available in three flavors including vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. The ice creams are halal-stamped and gluten-free, the company claimed.
While the business partners began developing the product a year ago, it took longer than expected to launch since they wanted to get the taste right, they said in a statement.
“It wasn’t just about creating a high protein ice cream, it was about creating a high protein ice cream that tastes amazing,” said one of the founding partners Antonio Le Pore.
The company said it was targeting both health-conscious consumers and those who “love ice cream.”
The product is launching at retail stores across Dubai and Abu Dhabi this month. The company said it is also looking for franchise partners across the Gulf Cooperation Council region.
